code of conduct

The Association of Marshall Scholars, Inc. (“AMS”) is a non-partisan 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We explore important issues by convening a wide range of perspectives. It is important that our attendees have an exceptional and educational experience at our events.

The AMS has developed and adheres to a Code of Conduct that applies to all Marshall Scholars, speakers, participants, attendees, guests, and AMS employees and staff at AMS events (collectively, "AMS Guest(s)”). The Code of Conduct is intended to provide a safe and welcoming environment. This Code of Conduct applies to AMS Guests at all in-person and online events.

AMS condemns and will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, hate speech that constitutes a true threat of violence or incitement of illegal activities, and other forms of illegal behavior. The AMS Board does not, as a general policy, support or refute individual views, statements, or actions of individual Marshall Scholars.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

  1. Be polite, considerate, and respectful of fellow attendees, speakers, event organizers, vendors, or any other AMS Guests.

  2. Our events are not an advocacy forum. Please do not boo or hiss or otherwise interrupt the program in any way if you hear ideas that don’t align with your own world view.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR:

  1. AMS will not tolerate disruptive behavior of any kind.

  2. AMS will not tolerate harassment in any form. That includes verbal or online comments of an inappropriate sexual, derogatory, or discriminatory nature.

  3. Violence, threats of violence, or violent language directed against another person or group.

  4. AMS will not tolerate inappropriate touching, pushing, or shoving.

  5. No drugs, tobacco, or weapons allowed.

  6. AMS events are a bully-free zone. This includes verbal or online comments and behavior that constitutes bullying.

  7. Engaging in unacceptable behavior may result in removal from the event and/or being excluded from future events.

  8. Any other illegal activity or forms of harassment not covered above.

CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated at AMS events. Anyone asked by AMS staff member to cease any unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If an AMS guest engages in unacceptable behavior or fails to comply with expected behavior at any time during the sponsored event, AMS may take any action it deems appropriate, including but not limited to removing the AMS guest from the event without a refund.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

If you witness or are subjected to unacceptable behavior or have any other concerns about a violation of this Code of Conduct at The AMS event, please notify AMS as soon as possible. You can also ask questions in advance of the event regarding the Code of Conduct or its implementation. To contact AMS, please email: info@marshallscholars.org.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES

AMS makes every effort to create a safe environment for its AMS events, including with respect to the health of its guests. With respect to the risk of infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, AMS will operate its events based on the recommendations of the CDC and UK government agencies. AMS reserves the right to adjust all public events to adhere to the latest public health guidelines as necessary.

AMS respectfully asks that any AMS Guest who has tested positive for COVID-19, has had any COVID-19 symptoms, or has been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 less than 10 days prior to an event to refrain from attending. Face masks are not currently required.

By attending an AMS event, all AMS Guests understand there are inherent risks of contracting infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, by gathering with a group of people at an event and assume these risks and the responsibility for their own well-being.
